The idea of the movie was partly inspired by a real life event, although there is nothing supernatural to the story, and some say the connection itself is only an urban legend. When you look into some of the odd details of the movies and the histories of the locations where they were shot, it may get even harder to tell whether the horror story left something behind or whether they were chosen because there was already something dark there. Jeepers Creepers, a 2001 horror hit inspired by true events, may have given birth to several different haunted legends in Florida. The impact of the paranormal on movies might work the other way, although it may be difficult to determine which came first and whether the unexplained experienced in the shadows may just be the normal made paranormal because of the film connected to it. Part of this is coincidence, part of it may be just the law of large numbers, and part is the marketing of the film to make it come across even more terrifying than it might be. It was famously said movies had the devil or something else dark built into the celluloid. Other worldly interference on films such as the Exorcist and Poltergeist feed off of our fear of their subject matter and make sense to us because audiences understand they are playing with something they shouldnвЂ™t or conjuring evil just by starting the discussion. They tend to make more sense when a nice horror movie is at play. ItвЂ™s been totally demolished and the site has been completely redeveloped.Movie curses are nothing new and add something to the enjoyment and mythology of the feature.

Totally gone is the industrial site used for the filmвЂ™s climax, which was White's Meat Packing, which stood at 315 Northeast 14th Street to the north of Ocala. No offence to the good folk of Reddick, but it doesnвЂ™t look like itвЂ™s currently in use. The вЂPoho CountyвЂ™ sheriffвЂ™s office is Reddick Public Library, 15150 Northwest Gainsville Road.

You can, though, see what was the diner (for the present, at least) at 4629 FL-44, Lake Panasoffkee, on the south side of the road just west of N County Road 470 near the town of Rutland.Д«reaking with the movie tradition of naming fictitious bar and restaurants after members of the Production Design team, вЂOpperвЂ™s DinerвЂ™ is a nod to Barry Opper, one of the filmвЂ™s producers (OK, he was the filmвЂ™s production manager too). Sometime after filming, it mysteriously burned down and thereвЂ™s nothing left to see. The church was the empty and abandoned St JamesвЂ™s, which stood at 3602 SW 110th Avenue, between Dunnellon and Ocala.

The town is about 25 miles west of Ocala and if you really demand that extra shot of the macabre, itвЂ™s claimed that ghosts of three children killed at the intersection of Tiger Trail and the local high school road have made appearances in the small hours of the morning.

Most of the driving scenes were shot on whatвЂ™s known locally as Tiger Trail, a dead-straight, north-south stretch of SW 180th Avenue Road, to the northeast of the town of Dunnellon. Mostly set on-the-road, the film was made in the area around Ocala in northern Florida. This genuinely creepy horror has become somewhat overshadowed by its directorвЂ™s past but it was successful enough to spawn a couple of sequels.
